Microjersey

A high-performance technical fabric milled in Italy. Designed for modern life.

Our #1 Fabric - Here's Why

The fabric

What makes Microjersey different

Microjersey is a high-performance technical Italian fabric developed by one of Europe's most respected textile innovators.

It is our number 1 selling fabric for good reason. In production across Paula Ryan garments for over 20 years, its construction gives it properties that most fabrics cannot match - not at the point of sale, and certainly not five years later.

Microjersey moves with you. The 360 degree stretch adapts to the body without losing its shape - wash after wash, season after season. It maintains maximum resistance to pilling and retains its colour with consistent richness across years of wear.

For a woman whose life moves quickly, the care a garment requires is part of the equation. Microjersey dries up to 55% faster than cotton, needs no special handling, and is ready to wear straight from the wash. Less time thinking about clothes. More time in them.

Paula Ryan chose Microjersey not because it was fashionable, but because it performed. Over more than 25 years of design, she has come to understand that the fabrics which earn their place in a wardrobe are the ones that consistently deliver.

The magic is in the fabric.

The Microjersey difference

Why Microjersey remains unmatched

Milled in Italy, manufactured in New Zealand, made to last a decade.

Effortless Care

No ironing required

Microjersey holds its shape without heat. Hang it, wear it. No iron, no steamer, no additional effort - ever. Engineered for the demands of a full life.

Versatility

A dream for for travel

Microjersey packs compactly and emerges from a suitcase ready to wear. No creasing, no searching for a hotel iron - designed for the way women actually live. Simply hand-wash, hang and wear.

Durability

Shape that holds

Microjersey retains its shape after repeated washing - no stretching, no shrinking, no gradual loss of structure. The fit you choose on day one remains the fit you wear on year ten.

Performance

Where comfort meets longevity

Comfort and quality, without compromise.

ensured Comfort

Moisture wicking

Microjersey moves perspiration away from the skin, not into the fabric. The result is comfort that holds through long days, warm rooms, and active travel - without compromising how the garment looks or feels.

durability

Up to three times more durable than cotton

Independent testing confirms Microjersey's exceptional longevity under equivalent conditions. That durability is why our customers are still wearing the same pieces a decade after purchase.

LONGEVITY

Built to last

Microjersey's tight warp-knit construction resists pilling at the surface - the friction that gradually dulls most fabrics simply does not take hold. The finish that catches your eye on day one is the finish you are still wearing five years later.

Paula Ryan Microjersey

COST PER WEAR

The investment that pays dividends

A Microjersey piece is not an impulse purchase. It is a calculation - and one that rewards the woman who makes it.

Take a pair of Wide Leg Pants at $490. Worn twice a week over five years, that is under $1 per wear. The Classic Waisted Jacket she pairs them with, at $590, works out to just over $1 per wear on the same basis.

Cost per wear is not a rationalisation. It is how women who dress well have always thought about clothes. The question is never what something costs - it is how many times you will wear it, and how good it will still look when you do.

Our customers return not because they need to replace, but because they want to add. That is what a wardrobe built on Microjersey looks like after a decade.

Good to know

Microjersey, answered

Paula Ryan was founded in 1998 by Paula Ryan, a former Fashion Quarterly editor and the daughter of a Canterbury sheep farmer. The brand has designed and made wardrobe essentials in New Zealand for more than 25 years.

What is Microjersey?

Microjersey is a high-performance technical fabric made from ultra-fine Italian polyamide microfibres knitted with LYCRA. Milled in Italy and made up in New Zealand, its open honeycomb construction gives it exceptional density, stretch and a smooth surface.

Does Microjersey pill?

No. The ultra-fine microfibre and tight warp-knit construction give maximum resistance to rubbing, so Microjersey does not pill. Garments keep their original surface appearance through years of regular wear.

Does Microjersey need ironing?

No ironing required. The warp-knit structure releases creases as the garment hangs, so nothing in the Microjersey range needs pressing, including tailored pieces. It comes out of the wash ready to wear.

Is Microjersey good for travel?

Yes. Microjersey is lightweight and wrinkle-resistant, so it rolls compactly and emerges from a suitcase ready to wear with no ironing. It is quick-drying and machine washable, which makes it a first choice for travel.

How do I care for Microjersey?

Machine wash cold at 30°C on a gentle cycle, turned inside out, with an enzyme-free detergent and no fabric softener. Hang to dry away from direct sunlight; the fabric releases creases as it dries, so no ironing is needed.
